Alright?

We’re Liam and Ben. We grew up in Dagenham, East London. Not the part they show on the postcards. The part where you double-lock the front door even when you're home, and where the sound of a car alarm at 3am is just background noise.

Our dad was a builder. Proper old school. His hands were permanently grey from cement and dust. He worked 12-hour shifts, six days a week, just to put food on the table and keep the heating on.

His pride and joy wasn't a sports car. It was his Ford Transit. That van was his livelihood. It held twenty years’ worth of tools. It was the mortgage payments. It was our summer holiday. It was everything.

February 12th, 2021. 5:30 AM.

Dad went out with his tea to warm up the van for work.

Gone.

No smashed glass on the driveway. No alarm. Just a wet patch of pavement where his life’s work used to be.
